Lund delivered the office’s Annual Report.  Lund said that 2011 was a “good year”.  Marion County’s
unemployment rate went from 12% in January 2011 to 8.6% at the end of the year.  There
were 378 additional manufacturing jobs in Marion County at the end of 2011 than there were at the
beginning.  Some of those numbers reflect the folks that were rehired after the recession.  The 2011
expansion of the manufacturing sector included RL Schreiber, Pacific Die-Cut Industries, and a new
line manufacturing aerosol products at Montebello.  Also is 2011, the Industrial Park on Highway 208
was certified as a “shovel ready” food processing area.  The Industrial Foundation also constructed
a 100,000 square foot spec building at the Crossroads Industrial Park.  Immediate priorities for the
Economic Development include the continued improvement and access to Technical Education and
the availability of low to moderate income housing for Marion County’s grow workforce.  A long-term
priority of the Economic Development office is to increase the water availability in Marion County,
especially as the food processing park begins to develop.
