LOCAL OBITUARIES FOR THE MONTH

 

Dominician Sister of Peace Sue Keene 

age 75, a native of Springfield, died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Sansbury Care Center at St. Catharine, KY. 

 

She is survived by two brothers, James Keene of Louisville and Milton "Bear" Keene of Springfield and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass for Dominician Sister of Peace Sue Keene will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 10 at St. Catharine Motherhouse at St. Catharine Hall with burial in the Motherhouse cemetery.  

 

Visitation will be at St. Catharine Motherhouse at St. Catharine Hall after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday where a prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.

 

 

 

Thomas Bernard “Bill” Caldwell

age 86, of Lebanon, KY, passed away Monday,

August 8, 2011 at Cedars of Lebanon Nursing Center.

He was born on August 22, 1924 in Marion County, KY.

Mr. Caldwell was a U.S. Army Veteran,  a retired employee of General Motors Company

in Dayton, Ohio, and a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

 

He is preceded in death by:

Parents-  Mark Thomas and Susan Emma Ryan Caldwell

5 Brothers-  James Ernest, Joseph Abbott, William Cletus, John Delmar, and Francis Mark Caldwell

Sister-  Mary Josephine Abell

 

Survivors Include:

Wife-  Mary Rita Spalding Caldwell- Lebanon, KY.

Son-  Phillip Spalding Caldwell, Indianapolis, IN

Sister-  Mary Elizabeth (John) Browning- Louisville, KY.

Also surviving are several Nieces and Nephews.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Interment in St. Augustine Church Cemetery.

 

Visitations will be held from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A prayer service will be

held at 7:00 Tuesday evening by Deacon Joe Dant.

 

 

 

Laetitia "Lettie" Keene Clements 

age 75, of E. Main St., Springfield, died at 11:43 a.m. Monday at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.  

 

She is survived by 3 sons, Pat Clements Jr. & George Clements both of Springfield and Keene Clements of Bardstown, 1 daughter, Rose Marie Wilmoth of Lexington, 1 brother, Bernard Keene of Bardstown, 4 sister in laws, Hattie Clements of Botland, Hollis & Maxine Keene of Bardstown and Fannie Abell of Lebanon and 10 grandchildren.  

 

Funeral Mass for Laetitia "Lettie" Clements will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Springfield with burial in the church cemetery.  

 

A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield where friends may call from 4:00 till 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.  Contributions are suggested to St. Dominic School.

 

 

 

Anthony Gerard Mattingly 

age 58, of Bardstown, passed away Monday, August 8, 2011 at Flaget Memorial Hospital, Bardstown, KY.

 

Born September 6, 1952 in Loretto, KY, Mr. Mattingly owned and operated Anthony Mattingly Contracting.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Linton and Elizabeth Lillian Newton Mattingly and his brother, Francis Gerard “Flood” Mattingly.

 

Survivors include his wife of nearly 40 years, Judy Gribbins Mattingly, two daughters, Stacey Hicks, Bardstown, Jewell Bryan (Michael), New Haven, six grandchildren, Logan, Bailey and Evan Hicks, Kelsey Mattingly, Emilee and Owen Bryan, ten sisters, Ann Mattingly, Lebanon, Sarah Hutchins (Howard) and Janet Cissell (Joe) all of Loretto, Marlene, Rose Marie and Patty Mattingly all of New Hope, Norma O’Daniel (Jerry), Mary Ann Riggs (Jackie) all of Bardstown, Margaret Reece (Mike) of Louisville, Theresa Skaggs (Mike) of Greenville, eight brothers, Joe Mattingly, Jude Mattingly, Charlie Mattingly (Sheann) and Bill Mattingly (Sabria) all of Bardstown, Bernie Mattingly (Janie) of Loretto, Larry Mattingly (Doris) of Bloomfield, Steve Mattingly (P.J.) and Arthur Mattingly (Carlene) all of New Hope.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Friday, August 12, 2011 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, New Hope, with interment in the church cemetery.  Rev. Ken Fortener will be the celebrant.  Visiting 3-9 PM Thursday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with prayer service at 7 PM Thursday.  

 

His brothers will serve as pallbearers.  

 

 

Bennie Groves 

age 56, of Sheridan Drive Campbellsville, died Wednesday at Taylor Regional Hospital.

He is survived by his mother Flora E. Groves of Campbellsville, brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry Allen and Valerie Graves of Adair County, Gary and Marjorie Graves of Texas, sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Louise & Prunice Barnett of Campbellsville, Betty Groves of Somerset, Tonya & Phillip Vinegar, Louisville and Lisa and Sonny Key of Lebanon.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, on Monday, August 8, 2011 at the Lyon-DeWitt Funeral Home with burial to follow in Bridgewater Cemetery in Green County.

age 54, of Riley, passed away Saturday, August 6th, 2011

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, August 9th at the Bosley Funeral Home.  Internment will be in Ryder Cemetery.

Luecille H. Mullins 

age 87, of Louisville, passed away Monday, August 1, 2011.

 

A native of Lebanon, KY, she was preceded in death by her husband, James K. Mullins and a daughter, Brenda Sue Mullins.

 

She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Brawand (Danny); sons, Norman Mullins (Linda) and James “Terry” Mullins; 3 grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Mullins, Cassandra Longo (Brawand), and Rebecca Crawford; and 5 great-grandchildren.

 

Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Friday at Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, Louisville, followed by a graveside committal service at Old Liberty Cemetery in Bradfordsville at 1:00 pm.   Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Thursday.

 

 

Ted Biegel 

age 55 of Lebanon died Tuesday August 2, 2011 in Louisville after an illness. 

 

He is survived by his wife Martha Bernadine Biegel of Lebanon, his parents Robert and Sheila Biegel of Oregon, one son, Sean Biegel of Washington, one daughter, Sheila J. Biegel of Campbellsville, three step-sons, Stanley Williams Jr. of Bardstown, Ricky Williams of Lebanon, Tim Williams of North Carolina, two step-daughters, Elizabeth Murphy of Campbellsville, and Cindy Chinn of Arizona, two brothers, Stephen Biegel of Washington, Robbie Biegel of Oregon, one sister Cindy Saend of Idaho, thirteen grandchildren also survive along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation for Ted Biegel will be 5:00 to 9:00 Friday August 12, 2011 at Campbell-DeWitt Funeral Home, no funeral will follow the family has chosen cremation.

 

 

Joseph Stanley Brady

age 83, of Highway 208, Calvary, KY, passed away Monday

August 1, 2011 at the Taylor Regional Hospital, Campbellsville, KY.

He was born on Sept. 19, 1927 in Marion County, KY.

He was a retired Heavy Equipment Mechanic, and a member of the Holy Name

of Mary Catholic Church.

 

He is preceded in death by:

Parents--             Louis Benedict and Maggie Ellen Settles Brady

Daughter--          Linda Diane Brady Hayes

3 Sisters--            Maxine Lee, Dorothy Farmer, Aletha Perry

5 Brothers--        Spencer, Shelton, Everett , Frank and O’Shea Brady

Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

 

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Holy Name of Mary

Catholic Church.

Interment will be in the Holy Name of Mary Church Cemetery.

 

 

Christopher Calvin Kuchenbrod

age 38, of Springfield, formerly of Danville, died Thursday, July 28, 2011.

Chris is the son of Donna (Harold) Million of Springfield and Gary (Linda Gayle) Kuchenbrod of Danville and was born in Louisville on Dec. 27, 1972. He is a 1990 graduate of Boyle County High School and played baseball, football and ran track. He attended St. Catherines College with a baseball scholarship. Chris had worked at ATR, Vic West Steel, First Alliance Insurance, C.I. Thornburg and Oak Factory. He loved fishing, especially at Lake Wedowee and Dale Hollow, and gardening and cooking. He followed both the Cincinati Reds and UK athletics. He was a Christian and a wonderful husband, dad, son and brother and loved to laugh with his family.

He is also survived by his wife, Regina Hogue Kuchenbrod, a son, Christian Michael Kuchenbrod and a daughter, Caitlin (Seth Eckert) High of Lexington; a sister, Becky Kuchenbrod, Lexington, and a brother, Jon Kuchenbrod, Danville; four step-brothers, Jesse Goens, Danville, Glenn (Mary) Million, David (Kathy) Million and Jeff (Wanda) Million, his mother and father-in-law, Linda and Lewis Hogue, Junction City, and a niece and nephew, Mackenzie and Michael Kuchenbrod, Danville. He is also survived by a nephew, Brian Cox, whom he helped to raise. He was predeceased by a brother, Michael Kuchenbrod.

A Life Celebration service for Chris will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday at the Stith Funeral Home and Family Center, Junction City. Rev. Jeff Eaton and Rev. Rudy Henderson will officiate. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens. 

 

Visitation will be after 4 p.m., Tuesday at the Stith Funeral Home, 318 W. Broadway, Danville. The family requests that friends please bring videos, photos and memories with them either day to share with the family. Randall Donahue

76, of Loretto, passed away Monday, July 25, 2011 at Flaget Memorial Hospital, Bardstown. 

 

Born January 13, 1935 in Nelson County, Mr. Donahue was a former Kentucky State Senator, Marion County Judge Executive, President of the Bank of Loretto and a former automobile dealer.  He was a former member of Lincoln Trail Development Aging Committee, Knights of Columbus, Loretto Sportsman Club, and St Francis of Assisi Church.  He was instrumental in acquiring grants for water and sewer systems in Marion County.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Miles Donahue, his parents, John Francis and Marie Asia Mattingly Donahue, a sister, Linda Sullivan and three brothers, James Donald, Joseph Nolan and Robert Paschal Donahue.

 

Survivors include his son, Randy Donahue (Angie) of Versailles, six daughters, Karen Manges (Tom) of Versailles, Joan Mattingly (Rick) of Bardstown, Sarah Osbourne (David) of Louisville, Betty Benningfield (Dion) of Lebanon, Chrissy Mattingly (Michael) of Versailles, Holly Hamill (Shawn) of Louisville, three sisters, Jane Durbin of Bardstown, Doris Gorman (Joe) of Townsend, TN, Carol Tuttle (Mark) of Lexington, five brothers, Leon Donahue (Sue) of Louisville, Jim Donahue (Bette)of Bardstown, Billy Donahue (Martha Jean) of Louisville, Tommy Donahue (Rose) of Bardstown, Larry Donahue (Pam) of Avon, North Carolina, 19 Grandchildren and two Great Grandchildren.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM Friday July 29, 2011 at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Saint Francis, with interment in the church cemetery.  Rev. R. Joseph Hemmerle and Rev. James W. Graf will be celebrants.  Visitation is 3 – 9 PM Thursday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 6 PM.

William Ray (Bill) Smothers

age 67, of Gravel Switch, KY, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2011

at his residence.

He was born on September 5, 1943 in Marion County, KY.

Mr. Smothers was a retired Corrections Officer for the North Port Correction Center.

 

He is preceded in death by:

Parents--             James Wesley and Ruby Lenora Roller Smothers

 

Survivors Include:

Wife-                     Edna Sue Guthrie Smothers  -- Gravel switch, KY.

Son-                        Jimmy Smothers  --  Detroit, MI

Step-Son-            William Jay Summers  --  Gravel Switch, KY.

 

Also surviving are 3 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandson

 

Cremation was chosen.  A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday  July 29, 2011

at Bosley Funeral Home, 246 South Proctor Knott Ave. Lebanon, Ky.

Services officiated  by Brother Joseph Guthrie.

Timothy Kevin “Tim” Elliott

57, of Loretto, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Spring View Hospital, Lebanon.

 

Born December 7, 1953 in Louisville, Mr. Elliott was a former Bricklayer and a Baptist by Faith.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, William James Elliott and his mother, Selma Louise Elliott.

 

Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Cynthia Siegrist Elliott, two sons, Mike Elliott of Shepherdsville, Billy Elliott of Elizabethtown, four daughters, Sherry Elliott of Ohio, Heaven Adams (Dustin) of Lubbock, TX, Mary Elliott of Clarksville, IN and Katie Elliott of Loretto, 10 Grandchildren, three brothers, Jim Bell (Nina), Mickey Elliott and Danny Elliott, all of Louisville, one sister, Karen Elliott of Tennessee.

 

Funeral will be 11 AM Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Mattingly Funeral Home with interment in Smocks Chapel Cemetery.  Brother Larry Baker will officiate.  Visiting 9 AM till 11 AM Saturday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto. 

 

 

 

Patricia “Patsy” Kirkland 

age 70, of Bradfordsville, KY, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2011

at her residence.

She was born on October 15, 1940 in Marion County, KY.

Mrs. Kirkland was a retired teacher from the Marion County School District, and a member of the Bradfordsville Baptist church.

 

She is preceded in death by:

Parents-  Edgar Clifton and Minnie Belle Gupton Kirkland

3 Brothers-  Donald, Ronald and Eddie Hardesty

 

Survivors Include:

Husband-  James Robert “Bob” Kirkland-  Bradfordsville, KY.

Daughter-  Charlotte Kirkland Purdom-  Bradfordsville, KY.

2 Sons-  Jim Kirkland-  Bradfordsville, KY.

               Joe Pat Kirkland-  Bradfordsville, KY.

Sister-  Vickie Courtwright-  Calvary, KY.

Brother-  Paul Hardesty-  Campbellsville, KY.

Also surviving are 3 Grandchildren, 4 Great-Grandchildren, 2 Step-Grandchildren, and

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Bradfordsville Baptist

Church, officiated by Brother William Pierce.

Interment in Old Liberty Cemetery.

 

Visitations will be held after 5:00 p.m. Friday, at Bosley Funeral Home, 246 S. Proctor

Knott Ave. – Lebanon, KY.

There will be visitations at the church for Mrs. Kirkland beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saturday,

until time of service.

 

 

 

Robert A. Farris

age 57 of Hood Avenue, Lebanon died Friday, July 22, 2011 at Jane Todd Crawford Memorial Hospital.

         

He is survived by his children, Frank Spears, Linda Spears and Melissa Venegas all of Lebanon, three grandchildren, one brother, Joe Farris of Stanford and one sister, Sharon Brent of Waynesburg.

         

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Monday, July 25, 2011 at the Campbell DeWitt Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Old Liberty Cemetery.
